Barbie Store Packs Up Accessories, Calls It A Day

News coming down the wire -- and bubbling up from the blog universe over at Shanghaiist -- is that the Barbie Flagship Store has closed up operations today, imploding into a perfume-scented pink supernova of financial insolvency.
Shocker: "...sales at the six-storey outlet failed to get off the ground and Mattel had to cut its targets by nearly a third within the first eight months, according to previous media reports."
And just as the actually opening of the Barbie Store a few years back on Huaihai Lu meant something about world feminism, commercialism, consumerism, culture and industry, the closing of the store as well means something equally as weighty on the same issues. Don’t know what it is. But it’s just at the intersection of all those issues. It's ripe for commentary.
Hey, remember that escalator? It was like a... you know.
Incidentally, also at The Straits Times is this little piece of wonderful: “Def Leppard has eye on legacy with live album, tour"
So like.... Silver lining.
But tonight, yes, the delightful lilts of girlish giggling is silenced by the cold realities of commerce and industry.

GOOD! Fuck'em, we don't need their commentary on the unhealthy ideal image all our women should aspire to. Give me a bitch with curves over a boney chick any day. Fuck off Mattel, eat a dick! Please sign in or register to comment
