Culture & Sports:
A "Grand Shanghai Theatre" (上海大歌剧院, not to be mistaken with the Shanghai Grand Theatre) started construction this year, in the Expo Houtan area. Currently in progress are the east halls of Shanghai Library and Shanghai Museum, in addition to the epic-looking Shanghai Planetarium (picture above). All in Pudong.
Puxi will have something nice, too. The Theatre of Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Cheng Shifa Art Museum are finished. And there will be a new Xujiahui Sports Park, which is said to be Shanghai's largest public sports venue (from Caoxi Bei Lu all the way to Zhongshan Nan Er Lu). It will open 24 hours.
Ecology & Environment
There are 18 projects under this category, including quite a few sewage and waste treatment plants. The public areas alongside the Huangpu River: Yangpu riverfront, Xuhui riverfront, the southern part of the Bund, are going to expand this year too. Three big green spaces are being built: Expo Culture Park, Taopu Green Space, and one in Sanlin.
Pudong International Airport phase three has started construction; Line 10, Line 14, Line 15 and Line 18 are under expansion. Also upgrading: the Shanghai–Nantong railway, G320, and G228. The construction of Husuhu Railway, which will connect Shanghai, Suzhou, and Huzhou in less an hour, has also started.
Aside from the rather obvious mega factories from Tesla and ABB, a few creative and tech centers are also being built, including three creative/science centers in Zhangjiang, a Volkswagen factory for electric engines, as well as a "media bay" (传媒港) and "intelligence valley"(智慧谷) on the West Bund, serving as bases for entertainment and AI.
Education & Hospital
Universities are building their new campuses, including the Shanghai Theatre Academy and the Shanghai University of Science and Technology; hospitals, especially those for senior citizens, children, and women are expanding their departments as well.
