A spot of 17th century comedy for your delectation over on The Pearl’s stage this Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, courtesy of East West Theatre’s take on Molière’s Learned Ladies.

The plot revolves around the romantic fate of star-crossed lovers Clitandre (Jerome Mazet) and Henriette (Awesta Zarif), the lofty ambitions of supercilious matriarch Philaminte (Mirren Childs), and husband Chrysale’s altogether more compassionate approach (Mark Edwards).

Throw in delusional Aunt Belise (Helene Meurnier) and lyrical heart-throb Trissotin (Micheli) and the mix is ripe for misunderstandings galore, a fair few double-crosses and plenty of satire on the merits of being "learned."
