In case you missed it in the last Community Chest, Sport for Life’s opening all their sessions to new and existing customers to check out for free till February 10. Current customers can try a different sport from the one currently participating, but both old and new can try multiple sports.
Some more sport stuff (for kids)Dulwich College Shanghai is offering a Winter Futsal Camp (soccer on a hard court) over four Sundays from January 14 to February 4, for kids ages 1-9.
Hey, it's 2018, time to get dancing like you always wanted to. Every Sunday there's a dance party at Pentalounge with rotating DJs bringin': son montuno, guaracha, cha cha chá, and mambo. Starts from 5pm, but gets crowded around 7pm. Tickets are 30rmb at the door and includes one drink.
If Sunday's reserved for your "me party" there's salsa through the week, including Thursdays at La Bodeguita del Medio.
Cause what other time of the year will you take up swing dancing? Shanghai Swings is offering lessons for beginners, for both couples and (gasp!) single people. The course will take place over four sessions: January 21, 28 and February 4, 11 from 6-7.30pm. Costs 530rmb a person or 900rmb per couple.
New Gyms and What They’re Offering…

Just finishing up final touches on their studio today, ProWorks should be ready to roll out classes in 1-2 weeks. Another American franchise, this boutique studio was founded in San Fransisco by a husband-wife team in 2009, while said husband was on the road to recovery post plane crash (true story bro, Forbes did a story on the business in 2016).
The gym offers small group pilates classes on machines (first one free), as well as pilates mash-up sessions with yoga, boxing, or barre elements. They’re currently offering founder-priced packages, the first is “Fit 10” which includes 10 classes a month for 1,380rmb for 3 months (regular: 1,880rmb), or for less commitment a 10 class package that can be used over 2 months for 1,680rmb (regular: 2,180rmb). Spots are limited. More info and sign-ups on WeChat: Pilatesproworks.
F45 Training (Yanping Lu)
The Camel Group HIIT franchise has opened a second location that's a bit bigger than the first. To celebrate, they're offering a 12-month Foundation Membership at 1,1000rmb per month (usual monthly rate: 1,688rmb). Founders can’t switch freely between the two locations like regular members, though they are allotted one Xuhui studio visit per week. And in other F45 news, the next 8-week challenge (including exercise and meal plans) starts January 29. The last challenge’s winners lost 28 pounds between them and individually about 6.8% of body fat mass. For more info on class packages and challenge-participation, head to WeChat: Functional F45.
