Mother's day is coming up on Sunday May 9. Yep, that's right, time to treat that special - nay, the most special lady in your life. Shanghai has a host of deals on motherly activities such as brunches and afternoon teas as well as a few other very delightful events. We've listed them below.
Homegrown dessert delivery group Suga'hai will teach you and your young'uns how to bake three simple, classic treats for the upcoming Mother's Day. You'll be in good hands with their very own Chef Nikki leading the class and will be able to take all your baked goods with you at the end of the afternoon. As for mementos that can't be eaten, you can have family photos snapped, printed and framed after the event.
For the particularly carnivorous moms out there, or just the ones who apreciate a little class, Scena, an Italian restaurant high up in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Lujiazui, have a surf-and-turf buffet for Mother's Day. There'll be fresh seafood, grilled and carved meats, as well as pastas and antipastos to name a just few. Chefs on the pastry team have also put together a series of sweet bites such as lychee rose raspberry mousse, and crostata with blueberry jam for dessert. All of this comes with sweeping 52nd floor views of city, and the Pearl Tower framed right there infront of you in their floor-to-ceiling windows.
What do mums love more than flowers? Well, maybe diamonds, or chocolates. But thats neither here nor there. Rooftop of the Banyan Tree Hotel, Tops, is doing afternoon tea for Mother's Day. The location is right on the riverfront in Hongkou and probably one of the most underrated places to take in Shanghai's iconic skyline. From here you'll get a south facing profile of Lujiazui, while the Bund side of the river curves away into the distance and you sip tea and nibble cakes on the terrace. Reservations are encouraged to get those terrace seats.
The Grand Kempinski Hotel is celebrating Mother's Day with a little bit of everything; flower arrangement courses, afternoon teas, buffet lunches, and special desserts. All moms will get a complimentary rosé cocktail with their Sunday brunch this Mother's Day at Pollux. Paul Pairet's casual bistro-style French dishes will be on the menu from 11am-3pm. They've got a very nice little bit of courtyard in Xintiandi, so the place fills up fast. Our guess is it will be best to book ahead if you want to secure a table. If you've got your heart set on Pairet's cooking but can't get a seat here, you could always head over to Mr. & Mrs. Bund for their Mother's Day deal.
