NIGHTLIFE

Shanghai’s favorite rock and roll dive reopens after the latest round of lockdowns. They’re raging all weekend long with guests DJs covering everything from punk rock to punk rock to even more punk rock. Fireball is flowing and there’s no cover at the door. Expect a smokey room full of kids wearing black and sullenly playing pool. Good times. “Turns out you can’t kill that which was already dead…”

Yuyintang Park — that’s the bigger of the two Yuyintang live music houses — reopens after five months of mandatory closures. If you’ve been missing live rock bands on stage, they’ve got four lined up for Friday night, including Trash Panda, Angles, Fulcrum, and Flying Games, rounded out by the Mojo Jam band doing classic rock covers. First big live show in a while. Don’t miss. No cover at the door. Starts 8pm.

Avant electronic / dance club ALL celebrates their fifth anniversary with some of their most established and Internationally recognized house artists, DJs, and producers. The evening features a rare performance from Tzu Sing, who performed at the opening five years ago, along with Lishan, Charity SSB, Illsee, Ikke, Howell, and visuals from installation / digital artist Kim Laughton. Watershed night for Shanghai’s most forward reaching dance club.

Dj Skinny Brown of Popasuda fame has secured a rooftop space for one last summer shaker. A bunch of DJs are playing at the Insight Lounge for an afternoon into evening party to send off the summer that was 2022. Music is all over the place from reggae to drum n bass, to electronic, rock, funk, and soul. No entry fee. Gets going around 4pm and continues on into the sunset.

Savvy Pop-Up Market

The Savvy pop up market / party / performance event / vintage fashion show / second hand clothes swap is back again with three days of eclectic DIY fun. Local designers, craftspeople, clothing vendors, food and drink, and DJs / performances. No entry fee for all three days. This one’s going down at One East from 2pm to 10pm. Thrifty!



ARTS

Mao Junshu, a young accordion player and teacher at the Shanghai conservatory of music together with Kuang Junhong, a young classical guitar player who is the first Asian to win the highest prize in the 66th ard Munich International Music Competition, will bring you the classic works of two music giants in a new performance form.

Hunan born Fu Binjing - a well known Chinese dancer who’s referred to as the Drama Queen, meets the “heavyweight” Chand, a dancer, choreographer, actor and influencer who’s known as the “chubby but most flexible dancer from Inner Mongolia”.

Carmina Burana was composed in 1935 and 1936 by Carl Orff, based on 24 poems from the medieval collection Carmina Burana, probably the most frequently performed choral work of the 21st century. It consists of three sections – Springtime, In the Tavern and The Court Of Love – preceded by and ending with an invocation to Fortune. The concert is played by Shanghai Opera House and conducted by Zhong Xu, one of the best recognized conductors in the nation.

Meet You Museum shows works of Pablo Picasso including two major works from his bullfighting series: “ Toros y Toreros“ and “ Tauromaquia“ . Also included in this exhibit of Picasso's work are 9 rare photographs taken of his family by photojournalist Robert Capa. This timeless exhibition of Picasso's work displays his genius over the years with a selection of 202 of his selected pieces.



KIDS & Family

A 100% interactive musical experience where the audience is the show! Canadian performance troupe "Samajam" has introduced a show for families, creating musical happenings with the help of their audiences. After a successful tour, they're back in China and sweeping its audience through South America! The lively showleaders on stage will teach the audience basic music theory and lead parents and kids in percussive group performances with instruments provided. The show is in Chinese.

Tennis lessons for kids by leading international tennis academy in Shanghai based on official ITF International Tennis Federation curriculum. Fall term is 14 weeks long and classes are given by foreign coaches! A complimentary welcome bag, individual progress report & diploma for each kid, rackets are provided.
