On April 28, immerse all your senses in music. Sound Of The Aftermath is top-notch visual production with heart-pounding subwoofers (Funktion-One). Dark Circus/La Lune team is back at the Pearl with the new original show. The once-famous Grand Hotel, now a shadow of its former self, serves as a backdrop for the characters to unfold and develop as the plot progresses. The fact that the hotel has a reputation for changing people's behavior and revealing unpredictable sides to their personalities adds an air of intrigue and suspense to the story. It's no wonder that the guests who arrive with the hope of a peaceful weekend are in for a surprise. It will be interesting to see how the story develops and how the characters will be affected by the hotel's mysterious powers. The show starts from 7pm to 8.45pm. A night of expansive soundscape from post rock promoters New Noise. They're hosting in vinyl DJs Jef, with live acts Beijing's thruoutin, and Kaishandao. One for fans of post punk and experimental sounds. Starts 10pm. 

Roza kicks off the first of their five National Holiday parties. They're starting off with Class Action a party dedicated to all flavors of disco and house -- classic and nu. DJs Hamza, Ben Moon, and DJ Mulan are the captains of your musical journey on the night. Starts 10pm and goes late, late. 

Zmack's Smash Hit Musical Improv show ENCORE returns. They have great new games plus Encore's signature improvised one-act musical play based on your suggestions. The show begins at 8pm and seating begins at 7:30. 100rmb entry, which includes a drink. 

Basement club C's gets the holidays going with a bit of funky house for the dance floor. Three DJs on decks for a night of house and techno beats that will make your feet move and your heart race. Join for a night of music, dancing, and good vibes. No cover. Starts 10pm.

A night of skate punk a la Fat Wrechords, Epitaph, et al, for people of a certain vintage. Sounds like NOFX, Pennywise, Jawbreaker, and more. Maybe even a bit of 7th wave ska in there. Mall security on DEFCON midnight for this one. Starts 10pm. No cover. 

Shanghai's beloved LGBTQI venue Roxie is keeping the party going all May holidays with night after night of parties and guest DJs. Check out the flyer to see who's playing. Runs 8pm till infinity every night. 

Saturday, April 29

Space Panda’s premier rooftop party series "SUNKISSED" is back. They're taking over the TOPS Bar of the Banyan Tree Hotel, replete with its breathtaking view of the North Bund. For the occasion, they are inviting Italian DJ and Producer duo Supernova all the way from Europe, for a one-night-only show -- expect dnamic and bouncey beats for the Bund party crowd. This one's on Saturday, starting at 3pm on into the night. Presale is 158rmb and it's 188rmb at the door.

An immersive and transformative experience shall unfold on the hallowed grounds of SYSTEM's 2F. Art performances, installations, enlightening talks about AI, and the divine healing powers of sound therapy. Live modular music, buto dance, art performances, techno and party, culminating in a headlining vinyl DJ set from AOKI takamasa, the prodigious master of minimal, eerie, and funky electronic dance music.  Pre-sale: 120rmb; 150rmb at the door. This Saturday, C's and Runnin' Late bring you the best of Shanghai's underground rock to get the holiday started off with a bang. Round Eye will bring their freak punk sound for an assuredly raucous set. Trash Panda is gonna get down and dirty with their garbage can punk rock. And the hook-laden hot indie sounds of Fulcrum make this party one for the books. In the booth the DJ group Hystereo will keep the floor rockin' all night long, made up of Tina Turnatrick, Madamn and Mauly Malone. Get there early because C's has got buy-one-get-one-free drinks until 10pm. First band on at 8pm.

On Saturday, April 29, Crush by Vault will be launching the new Crush wine platform with a free tasting of 20 of their favorite wines from 3pm to 5pm. 

The Breakfast Club is back at Elevator with bouncing beats for the dance floor. Special guest DJ is coming in from Italy, bringing with him that modern techno, of the Spazio Disponsible label.  Buckle up for a deep trip into subtle techno sounds before sharing some jianbings on the dance floor. Two dudes that we acutally there in the 80s, Sacco and DJ Ozone, are teaming up to supply the night with Western and Asian syntpop sounds. Expect some obscure gems and then drunken favorites -- from both hemispheres. 60rmb at the door. Starts 10pm. 

As the long-awaited summer begins, the Wanda Hotel on the Bund, Nova Events, and Paramount Events present “Cinco De Mayo”- Rooftop Opening Party. Get into the festive mood and dance the night away with Mariachi music. All the guests will be welcomed by tropical style garlands and hats. "From day to night, we party under the sun and the moon, with more than right hours of Latin music." The event starts at 4pm till late night on April 29. The Fellas 007 Night is coming back on April 29. Party like a 007 agent and get immersed in a fully transformed venue. German food and beer outpost Zeitgeist turns six this May holiday with two days of celebrations on April 30 and May 1. Drinks and food in their Biergarten with the first two drinks for guests on the house. Cold beer, music, German food, and wine. Event runs noon to 10pm on both days. Scan ahead (QR code on the flyer) to book your spot. It will fill up. 

The punk rock drag extravaganza returns to punk rock dive bar for more outrageous performances all over your face. The queens and kings are serving up a sci-fi Moulin Rouge theme this edition. Spacey! Starts 10pm. 100rmb at the door. 

Roza's holiday party series continues with Parallax -- "an object appears to change its position because the person or instrument observing it has changed their position." Music to keep you moving in house and disco genres from FayeL, Muun, and Stefano. Starts 10pm.

Mayita's Shanghai-famous Cino de Mayo party returns on May Day from noon until 10pm. Food, drink, entertainment, and good times -- they've got a live Mariachi band playing on the terrace. 100rmb per person, includes 3 tickets for food or drink. 180rmb for double that. 

Specters hosts a night dedicated to the apogee of heavy metal -- the '80s years. Wall to wall glam metal from Motley Crue, Poison, Alice Cooper, SKid Row and more. Really just perfect art. Starts 10pm. No cover.

All Club rounds out their holiday parties with vinyl crew The Melting Pot bringing in the hot wax. Line-up: Rochaos, Trius, Kaleido Jazzlegs, Ray Kong, and HBD, bringing a mix of hip hop, rare groove, funk, and warm sounds for the dance floor. 100rmb at the door. Starts 10pm. 

Roza rounds out five nights of holiday parties with Lovebox, a loving way to end off your vacation days on the dance floor.
