As of midnight on March 15, Beijing time, international embassies around the world will resume issuing all visa types to foreigners, including... drum roll... tourist visas, as announced by the Chinese Embassy in the United States today and confirmed by Xinhua just a few minutes ago. Of particular note: 10-year visas, including those which were issued before March 28, 2020, are restored to validity.
Side note: Hello, mum and dad.
In addition to that, port visa authorities will also resume issuing port visas for people traveling that way, and visa-free entry to Hainan and visa-free cruises to Shanghai will resume, for tourists from Hong Kong and Macao.
The news signifies the last, final vestige falling away from the Covid regulations that were enacted way back in 2020.
In complimentary good news, several major airlines, including Lufthansa among others, have announced the return of daily international flight routes between major international hubs and major Chinese cities. We're seeing these are variously coming back between now and the end of March.
