Potent power pop out of Surabaya, Indonesia, Crayon Case makes their China debut this week. A vibrant, warm swirl of intimate bedroom pop textures, dreamy melodies, distorted guitar noise, and tropical, chaotic city vibes - it’s the kind of indie music made to sweep you off your feet with its seamless pop sensibility and emotional hooks. Their Shanghai stop features local guests lo-fi indie pop outfit Me and My Sandcastle - swimming in a vat of cough syrup guitar tones, woozy synths, and tender vocals.
Crayon Case grew up in Surabaya, Indonesia, a city with high humidity and sudden tropical downpours. Their music reflects the mix of tropical heat, urban chaos, and youthful restlessness unique to Southeast Asia. It features reverb-heavy guitar noise and whispering vocals, evoking private, introspective moments that resonate with the intensity of adolescence.

The band’s first China tour brings this atmosphere to the stage. Tracks like “Surabaya” and “Gravits” convey the pulse of a developing city—rough yet alive, chaotic yet sincere. The live experience transforms distant streets, motorbike roars, and rainy-season ambience into immersive guitar-driven sound.

Crayon Case – Indonesian indie band from Surabaya, performing their first China tour.
Me and My Sandcastle – Shanghai musician Liu Xiao’s solo project, influenced by North American bedroom pop and lofi indie pop. Accompanied by drummer Deng Deng, bassist Xue Yijie, and keyboardist Yanran.

Attendees will get a rare opportunity to experience Crayon Case’s first China performance and hear their tropical, city-infused bedroom pop in a live setting. Fans of intimate indie music and experimental guitar textures will particularly appreciate the authenticity and immersive atmosphere of the show.
