About

CURRENT is an 18-month long multidisciplinary extravaganza featuring contemporary artists from Scotland. All that kicks off with two solos, as well as a day-long forum taking place on 27 June called Hubs and Fictions: On Current Art and Imported Nearness, and is the result of collaboration with Cooper Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee. The first of the two inaugural shows is called Surplus Cameo Decor by Edgar Schmitz, and comprises sculptural works, sound pieces and architectural interventions interspersed with live cameo appearances by what the press release intriguingly describes as 'art world protagonists'. The exhibition re-imagines the museum as a semi-fictional hub for cinematic plots and atmospheres. Elsewhere, Scotland-based collective Poster Club do precisely what their name implies: they make posters. Rather than replicate posters' conventional function of clearly conveying of information, theirs offer elusive statements, open-ended questions and humor. Their Shanghai show is called Wheat, Mud, Machine and comprises a brand new body of work in the form of posters, stickers and garments.
