About

Entitled 'The ‘Rock N’ Roll' in Kunqu Music Performance', this workshop intends to reiterate the aesthetic validity of traditional Chinese music in countering the dynamic of cultural globalization. Co-organized by Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum and Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe, this kunqu workshop is going to feature Lin Feng, an eminent bangu (clapper and drum) performer. Lin will introduce the significance of kunqu luogu, a percussion ensemble that structures a performance from the perspectives of forms, figures and atmosphere. The lecture will be held in both Chinese and English, hosted by Gwendoline Cho-ning Kam, an ethnomusicologist from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. No admission fee. Starts 2pm.
