It's that time of year, kiddos! Split Works' seminal festival experience Concrete & Grass reoccupies the Shanghai Rugby Field for two days in September, bringing in 60+ acts including the king of reggaeton Daddy Yankee ("Despacito" and "Gasolina" to name a few), fast-rising rappers YBN Nahmir and Rico Nasty, legendary Japanese underground figure Jun Togawa, shoegaze pioneers Slowdive, the ‘Japanese Jamiroquai’ SUCHMOS, American avant garde composer and producer Oneohtrix Point Never, Major Lazer ingredient The Jillionaire, indie emo kids Chinese Football, indie pop singer Zee Avi, Britpop band DYGL, Mallrat, Iceland's Emiliana Torrini & The Colorist, heavy bands Cancer Bats, The Garden, and And So I Watch You From Afar, Mongolian rock from Rid Band, and electronica duo Shanghai Restoration Project. There's five stages total, including a "dream club within a festival" run by Elevator club, plus the usual rafts of stands, pop-ups, food by several of Shanghai's favorite F&B purveyors, ice-cream, and an intimate field of real grass to just sort of lounge around and enjoy the sun-soaked vibes. This year they're introducing a Premium pass, which includes goodies like access to the Fat Cats clubhouse, and limited edition merchandise. The festival is a quick subway ride from downtown Shanghai on Line 6. Goes from 11.30am-9pm on Saturday and Sunday, with official after-parties at Elevator on Saturday and Sunday and ALL on Sunday. Tickets are 460rmb per day or 780rmb for two days on SmartTicket, or 520rmb per day at the door.
