About

Andris Nelsons, born in Riga in 1978 into a family of musicians, began his career as a trumpeter in the Latvian National Opera Orchestra before studying conducting. He was music director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, principal conductor of the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie in Herford, Germany, and music director of Latvian National Opera. Named Musical America’s 2018 Artist of the Year, Mr. Nelsons led the BSO in fourteen wide-ranging subscription programs in 2018-19 at Symphony Hall in Boston, and made three European tours together. In 2017, he and the orchestra toured Japan for the first time. In February 2018, Maestro Nelsons became Gewandhauskapellmeister of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, in which capacity he brings the BSO and Gewandhaus Orchestra together for a unique multi-dimensional alliance. Yefim Bronfman on the piano is recognized as one of today's most acclaimed and admired pianists, stands among a handful of artists regularly sought by festivals, orchestras, conductors and recital series.
