Is this Laoximen’s final Spring Festival? Two years since the final push to move all the families out, we’ll explore one of the last swathes of pre-Concession Shanghai. With many residents gone now, Laoximen is a different world, yet one that is surprisingly alive, and one whose buildings and stories remain. We don’t know how much longer this will be the case, so come for a last look at the atmospheric winding lanes and alleys, the intricate carvings, the architectural surprises, the blending of east and west, the richly layered histories, before it all disappears.
