Considered by many to be the finest jazz trombonist, JJ Johnson innovated the way the slide trombone was played. He was Charlie Parker to saxophone. Bebop wouldn’t have been the same without him. Now, a group of young and rising jazz musicians play in tribute to him and his great legacy. Cao Kai, often said to be the best modern Chinese jazz trombonist, leads the concert, with Zhang Xiongguan on the guitar and Tico on the bass. Drummer Yu Guojun keeps the rhythm.
