Six Chapters of a Floating Life is a series of six autobiographical prose pieces written by Shen Fu, an academic from the Qing Dynasty, a well-versed writer and a talented painter. Only four chapters have survived intact through history, but its detailed, sincere, and alluring representation of the love and wedded bliss of himself and his wife Yun Niang has captivateed readers across generations. In this kunqu opera produced by Kunqu Theatre of Jiangsu Province, the romantic story is presented with a new but traditional form. The show is directed by Luo Zhou, receiver of the 2012 Cao Yu Award, the most prestigious theatrical award in China. Ma Junfeng, one of the top theatre directors in China and director of another famous literature adaptation, Bloosoms, also takes part in the production.
