Screening: The Tibetan Book of The Dead
In collaboration with Time After Time and Cafe Philo here's an opportunity to watch a revealing documentary, narrated by Leonard Cohen, about the Buddhist concept of death, based on one of the most ancient books ever: The Tibetan Book of the Dead. Death is real. It comes without warning, and it cannot be escaped. As an ancient source of strength and guidance, The Tibetan Book of the Dead remains an essential teaching in the Buddhist cultures of the Himalayas. Narrated by Leonard Cohen, this enlightening two-part series explores the sacred text and boldly visualizes the afterlife according to its profound wisdom. The documentary (in English language) is divided in two parts: - “A Way of Life” documents the history of The Tibetan Book of the Dead, tracing the book's acceptance and use in Europe and North America. - “The Great Liberation” observes an old Buddhist lama and a 13-year-old novice monk as they guide a deceased person into the afterlife. The screening will have a short break between the two parts. After watching the documentary, we will have a discussion and an opportunity to network. Entrance is free but seats are limited, please reserve your spot.
