“Dragon Boat Racing”, the dance drama that won the 15th annual Wenhua Grand Prize, is debuting at the Shanghai International Dance Center on September 17-19. The story is set in Shawan Town, Guangdong in the 1930s, a place regarded as the home of Cantonese music. It portrays the struggle Cantonese musicians had in carrying forward Chinese traditional music and is based on the story “The Three Virtuosos of the He Family”. A blend of traditional and contemporary dance, “Dragon Boat Racing” is choreographed by Zhou Liya and Han Zhen, and will be performed by the Guangdong Song & Dance Theater. Performance is 125 minutes total with a 15-minute intermission; begins at 7.30pm.
