About

Painter Zhao Qin expresses his subtle irony on BIG canvasses at Eastlink, the gallery that hosted "Fuck Off" in 2000. In one mammoth, wall-sized work, Zhao captures the darker side of Nanjing's suspension bridge, which has long been idealized as a symbol of wealth. Opening: Friday, 6pm

Eastlink is proud to announce a solo show with Zhao Qin.

Zhao Qin has experimented with various artistic medium as his career has progressed, moving from animation and design to a more recent exploration of oil on canvas. His perennial interest in the human condition continues as he turns his attention to the iconic images of the Chinese military, whether it be its ships, air force or the space programme. As powerful and intense as these images might be there is an overall sense of disengagement with the subject matter. The viewer if given the freedom to interpret whilst the multilayered nature of the work is enhanced by an underlying irony that reveals a sense of humor present in the artist that imbues the work with a particularly unique aesthetic.

His newly developed large scale landscape paintings reference the former era of grand history painting. Nanjing
