About

Yuichi Yokoyama deliberately separates his manga from his paintings, but interestingly, there is a clear connection between them. According to the artist, he initially turned to manga because he found it difficult to succeed in painting. He has also mentioned that he considers his manga to be more important than his paintings. In recent years, his exhibitions have been held worldwide, showcasing not only traditional paintings but also a significant amount of original manga. These sketches, considered the least important and typically not shown to the public in the Japanese manga industry, are now part of his exhibits. Today, Yokoyama's manga has re-entered the contemporary art scene, being discussed as a unique form of contemporary painting from East Asian culture. His work spans both manga and painting, rather than being confined to printed manga volumes.
