"Landscape painting" emerged as an independent genre in Western art during the 17th century, distinct from religious or portrait themes. This genre focuses on capturing visual experiences, from natural and urban scenes to studies of light and color. This exhibition presents nearly 200 landscape-themed artworks created since the 1920s, including oil paintings, watercolors, sketches, ink paintings, prints, and photography. It features works by modern Chinese artists who have incorporated Western neoclassical and post-impressionist traditions while developing their own Chinese aesthetic. The exhibition also includes works that explore the blending of Eastern and Western artistic concepts and the diverse practices of landscape painting in the 21st century. The landscapes depicted range from architectural scenes and natural vistas to Jiangnan scenery and deserts, as well as depictions of hometowns and seasonal changes. These artworks offer a broad perspective, allowing viewers to appreciate the diverse approaches to landscape art.
