Ginger Root, the genre-blending project by Southern California’s Cameron Lew, returns with his highly anticipated 2024 album SHINBANGUMI, out under the renowned Ghostly International label. Known for his unique fusion of synth-pop, alt-disco, boogie, and soul, Lew draws from influences like Japanese City Pop and Western sounds, blending nostalgia with fresh innovation. SHINBANGUMI marks a personal and musical evolution, reflecting Lew’s growth after years of writing, touring, and experimenting. The album comes with a visual component, continuing the narrative from his 2022 EP Nisemono and telling the story of a fired music supervisor in 1987 starting his own media company.
