Shanghai’s renowned music and creative event brand, ALTER., is set to host a spectacular event, ALTER. x Yu Yuan 2025, this Qixi Festival. The event will transform the historic Central Square of Yu Yuan into a immersive stage for a night that seamlessly blends ancient Chinese heritage with cutting-edge music and technology.

Since its launch in 2018, ALTER. has established itself as a leader in innovative cultural programming, having attracted over 100,000 attendees to its more than 150 events across China. This year's collaboration with the iconic Yu Garden represents a pioneering effort to reimagine the historical landmark. The event will infuse its classical architecture with modern artistic energy, offering attendees a truly unique sensory journey.

Highlights of the evening will include:

• Live Performances: The night will be headlined by the acclaimed South Acid Mimi, known for their innovative fusion of sci-fi, rock, electronic, and traditional Chinese music. They will be joined by internationally celebrated singer-songwriter Diner and a special dance performance by Qinran.

Rain Ling is a DJ who enjoys exploring sounds and specializes in crafting immersive experiences by weaving together organic rhythms, worldly vibes, downtempo, and bass.

Diner (7:30-8:30pm)

Diner is a musician born in the late 1990s. Classically trained in guzheng, she holds a Bachelor's in Music Performance and a Master of Arts in Music. Her work explores pentatonic traditions through a multicultural lens, blending classical roots with contemporary electronic, post-punk, and dance music. She has performed at international festivals like Camden Rocks in London and has been featured on platforms such as Apple Music’s “Up Next” series. Her debut album penta was released in July 2025, examining themes of memory and healing through sound.

Qinran (7:30-8:30pm)

Qinran is a leading avant-garde dance artist of China's new generation, known for pioneering a "new Chinese aesthetic" that explores the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature and the contemporaneity of tradition. With a 20-year foundation in street dance and 17 years of professional experience, his unique style fuses contemporary dance, Taiji, martial arts, and flow art.

His accolades include being ranked among the Top 8 Dancers in the USA while teaching in Chicago, being a nominated artist for events like the Aranya/Wuzhen Theater Festival and Strawberry Music Festival, serving as a Chinese Culture Ambassador at the United Nations, and presenting works at the Venice Biennale. Notable works include CYBER 2077, White Deconstruction, and Drunken Beauty.

Cocoonics (8:30-9:30pm)

Cocoonics creates immersive sonic experiences that blur the lines between memory and fiction through music. Beginning her journey in 2017 with live SP404 performances on radio, she quickly graced stages at major international festivals like Clockenflap and Sónar.

By 2020, she had established herself in the local music scene, and in 2024, her groundbreaking Boiler Room performance garnered widespread attention. She was also invited to Vancouver’s New Forms Festival, embarking on a multi-city tour across Japan, Canada, and Korea with her gesture-controlled live set that merges body, sound, and visual art. Frequently featured as a headliner at both international festivals and local club events, Cocoonics continues to emerge as a pioneering voice in the global electronic music landscape.

South Acid Mimi (9:30-10:30pm)

South Acid Mimi is a synth band from Yunnan, formed in December 2013 by Shi Shi, Yi Xiao, and 004. Growing up surrounded by nature and underground rock and electronic music, their music boldly explores themes of love, rupture, nature, absurdity, life, and death.

Yang Bing (10:30pm-12am)

Yang Bing is a foundational figure in China's electronic music scene, often called a "master" for his influential role in shaping its development since the 1990s. He pioneered China's international party culture with the "Great Wall Rave Party" and the iconic White Rabbit club, championing the ethos "Never Stop Raving".

His achievements include producing the documentary Break The Wall (2017), representing Chinese culture at Amsterdam's ADE and Germany's Fusion Festival, winning Best Underground DJ at the DJ China Awards (2022), and performing at Boiler Room Beijing in 2024. His DJ style seamlessly blends house, techno, electro, and breaks, known for its jazz-like improvisation and profound crowd connection.
