The legendary folk band of northwest China has been around for nearly thirty years. Founded in 1995 by Suo Wenjun and Zhang Quan, singers from Lanzhou, Gansu province, they take the music from the region to create spellbinding tunes such as ‘Ballad of the Yellow River’ and ‘Gone’. Not simply an imitation of traditional folk music, their songs are innovative in their presentation whilst preserving their folk essence. The band has gone through many evolutions over the years, but their music has stayed pure in spirit. They will be celebrating a whopping thirty years with an anniversary show at Bandai Namco with support from another folk legend - the chameleonic Xiao He - known for his renegade mix of genres and artistic forms, as well as his innovative use of the ruan and live improvisation.
