Yuyintang’s new CUBE space, located in the newly minted Yuyintang Town beneath C Park (right across the street from their old digs), test drives its new layout with a pretty awesome double bill. Shanghai post punk outfit Solid Liquid ain't your average post punk band - a psych-laced trip down the rabbit hole that plays out like a Chinese opera gone off the rails, it's amazing how many musical intricacies they're able to pack in - turning each track into a Jenja tower of sharp guitar lines, hypnotic backing vocals, punchy bass grooves and almost indifferent musings sung via wailings. Meanwhile, Hangzhou’s Salty Tomorrow hit the sweet spot between reflective indie rock and panic-ridden infectious post punk - engaging listeners with their rich, sincere lyricism before thrusting them forward into a jangly, off-kilter arpeggio that allows the songs to swell into a whirlpool of catharsis. Righteous stuff indeed.
