Mulan is a large-scale original ethnic dance drama choreographed by Zhou Liya and Han Zhen. Premiering in 2017 at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, the production was awarded the 11th Chinese Dance Lotus Award.

Set during the Northern Wei Dynasty, the story follows a young woman who disguises herself as a man to take her father’s place in the army. Through her journey, she confronts questions of identity, loyalty, and personal choice, ultimately growing into a heroic figure.

Structured around the themes of filial piety, loyalty, and love, the work presents an epic narrative through physical storytelling. Combining strength and poetic movement, the production explores a woman’s path of self-discovery and self-identity within a male-dominated world.
