Description

Opening on February 4, 2026, the Shanghai Museum’s annual Chinese New Year exhibition takes on the theme of the Year of the Horse. "Galloping into Spring" brings together over 16 pieces/sets of horse-themed artifacts from institutions like the Gansu Provincial Museum and Shaanxi Museum, offering a look into the rich cultural significance of the horse throughout Chinese history. Highlights include a set of sculptures from the Tang Dynasty’s Zhaoling tomb, featuring the Six Steeds, along with exquisite examples of Han jade carving and Tang figurines depicting horses and riders. The exhibition explores how horses have symbolized strength, elegance, and ambition, with a focus on their role in ancient Chinese art and mythology. Visitors will also encounter artwork from renowned artists like Xu Beihong and Zhang Daqian, depicting the spirit of the horse in both traditional and contemporary styles.
