Singapore theatre practitioner Alvin Chiam presents his first solo work, Last Luncheon, a minimalist performance about solitude, memory, and acceptance. Through a man, a table, a can of luncheon meat, and a cassette tape recorder, the production explores a journey of reflection and the search for meaning.

About the Performance

Last Luncheon follows an elderly man who eats one can of luncheon meat every day to keep a promise made to his wife. Alone, he revisits memories and past moments while searching for meaning and closure. As the cans of luncheon meat gradually disappear, he approaches the final can.

Created, directed, and performed by Alvin Chiam, the work uses a minimalist style, combining sound, lighting, and physical performance to build the character’s inner world. Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s Krapp’s Last Tape, the production invites audiences to reflect on solitude, memories, and life.

Performed in Hokkien, Cantonese, and some Mandarin, the show includes English and Chinese subtitles.

Alvin Chiam

Writer, Director, Performer

Alvin Chiam is a Singapore theatre practitioner with over twenty years of experience in theatre. He has worked as an actor, director, and acting coach, and joined The Theatre Practice in 2001. He later trained under French theatre master Philippe Gaulier and completed a Master’s degree in Ensemble Theatre at Rose Bruford College in London.

He is currently a full-time lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore and has conducted theatre workshops in Singapore, Paris, London, and China.
