Live & Life Live Set Festival, China’s first electronic music festival centered around Live Set culture, arrives at Echo Land · Qiantan on August 29. The lineup brings together international artists Echonomist, CAY and Aalson for live performances, alongside Ferkingge feat. Helen Lee with a pipa-infused Hybrid Set and New York-based DJ and producer Xeena on DJ duties. Moving between Live Set, Hybrid Set and DJ Set, the festival explores how electronic music can be selected, reworked and created in real time, blending Melodic Techno, Melodic House and traditional Chinese instrumentation into an immersive afternoon-to-night experience.
Live & Life brings together three distinct forms of electronic performance — Live Set, Hybrid Set and DJ Set — each creating a different relationship between artist, audience and sound.
A Live Set brings the artist’s production process onto the stage. Through synthesizers, drum machines, samplers and sequencers, original material is deconstructed, performed and rearranged in real time — no two performances are ever the same.
A Hybrid Set combines the continuity of DJing with live instrumentation, vocals and hardware, moving between the studio and the dancefloor.
A DJ Set transforms existing recordings into a continuous narrative shaped by timing, instinct and the energy of the room.
The festival is rooted in Melodic House & Techno, extending into Deep House, Progressive House, Minimal Tech, Trance, UKG and Breakbeat. Artists are selected for the individuality of their sound and their ability to tell a story — curation over hype, expression over formula.
Visually, Live & Life favours refined minimalism over spectacle. Lighting, architecture and spatial design work in dialogue with the music, while the boundary between artist and audience is deliberately softened.

Greek producer and live artist Echonomist builds his sound on House and Techno, blending Dub echoes, Detroit Techno, Ambient, and Shoegaze into layered, cinematic sound spaces. A key artist within the Innervisions circle, he will bring his Live Set to Shanghai for the first time, guiding the audience into an underground electronic world shaped by echo, rhythm, and time.
Cologne-based CAY is a DJ, producer, and vocalist whose music moves between Melodic Techno, Progressive, and Breakbeat, combining deep melody, emotional expression, and electronic energy. With releases on HABITAT and collaborations with artists such as Mind Against and ARTBAT, he brings an immersive live set shaped by his distinctive voice and real-time performance approach.
Aalson is a live artist who brings cinematic storytelling into electronic music, shaped by film scores and Melodic Techno. His performances move from melancholic build-ups to epic bursts of energy, unfolding like a sound film playing live on stage.
Ferkingge builds his work around Trance while crossing into Techno, Drum & Bass, OST, and Orchestral/Emotional Uplifting Trance, often blending Chinese and ethnic music elements into electronic composition. As the first Chinese artist to perform on the main stage of Transmission Festival, he will present a Chinese-inspired electronic set featuring live pipa elements.
Helen Lee appears as the featured live pipa guest in Ferkingge's performance, adding the texture of traditional Chinese instrumentation to the electronic structure and shaping a more Chinese-inspired Hybrid Set
Xeena is a New York–based DJ and producer known for building emotionally charged, cinematic sets that blur the line between melodic house, techno, and organic minimal tech. Shaped by NYC’s nightlife, her sets move between emotional melodies and raw intensity — balancing tension, groove, and unpredictability. Rather than following a formula, Xeena approaches each set as a unique progression designed to pull people into a feeling, not just a dancefloor moment.
With performances across Amsterdam during ADE, New York, London, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, Xeena is steadily building a presence through a sound that feels both emotionally driven and immersive.
This festival represents a key moment in China’s electronic music scene, featuring material from Live Set culture, the most recent and self-directed creative phase in electronic music performance. The festival’s live shows are known for immersive sound design, blending live electronic performance with traditional Chinese instrumentation and experimental elements.
It is a chance to experience artists who have moved from studio productions to a more experimental and genre-fluid identity, delivering a layered and atmospheric live performance rather than a straightforward DJ set. The inclusion of live pipa (Chinese lute) alongside synthesizers and drum machines creates a unique cultural fusion that defines the festival’s identity.

Fornax Music is the founding organization behind Live & Life Live Set Festival. Its name is inspired by the Fornax Cluster — a vast constellation of galaxies — and by the idea of a furnace in which new worlds are formed. Founded in Shanghai in 2026, Fornax Music is an electronic music platform focused on Melodic Techno and Melodic House, built around immersive storytelling, emotional depth and forward-thinking sound. Fornax connects international artists with China’s emerging electronic music scene, while creating space for new local voices to be discovered.
