Philadelphia shoegaze band Nothing returns to China with material from their new album A Short History of Decay. Known for combining towering walls of noise with melody, atmosphere, and emotional intensity, the band brings their latest chapter to Shanghai as part of a three-city China tour.

Nothing arrives in Shanghai as part of their 2026 China Tour, supporting their latest album A Short History of Decay.

Since emerging in Philadelphia in 2010, the band has developed a distinctive sound that balances crushing distortion with melodic songwriting, creating music that moves between noise and beauty, heaviness and vulnerability. Their live performances have become known for their volume, clarity, and immersive atmosphere.

A Short History of Decay is Nothing's fifth studio album and their first release on Run For Cover Records.

Described by the band as their most refined and immersive work to date, the album expands their sonic palette while remaining rooted in the volume, reverb, and emotional songwriting that define their sound. According to vocalist Domenic "Nicky" Palermo, the record serves as a concluding chapter to a story that began with the band's 2014 debut album Guilty of Everything.
Nothing began as a solo project founded by singer-songwriter Domenic "Nicky" Palermo before evolving into a full band.

The current lineup includes guitarist Doyle Martin, bassist Bobb Bruno, drummer Zachary Jones, and guitarist Cam Smith. Together, they helped shape what Palermo describes as the band's most ambitious record to date.

Over the years, Nothing has become one of the most recognizable names in modern shoegaze, influencing a new generation of bands while continuing to push the genre into heavier and more expansive territory.
The band's sound blends layers of distortion, reverb, and melody with introspective songwriting.

Recent tracks such as "Cannibal World" and "Toothless Coal" showcase the heavier side of the band's sound, while songs like "Purple Strings," "The Rain Don't Care," and "Nerve Scales" highlight a more atmospheric and melodic approach.

The result is music that shifts between intensity and reflection, creating the immersive listening experience that has become synonymous with Nothing.

Nothing has become one of the defining names in contemporary shoegaze, known for transforming the genre's dreamy textures into something heavier, louder, and emotionally direct. For fans of immersive guitar music, dense soundscapes, and modern alternative rock, this Shanghai show offers a chance to experience one of the genre's most influential bands performing material from their latest album alongside songs from across their catalog.
