About the Performance

Amadeus tells the story of court composer Salieri, who spends years building his reputation and becomes one of Vienna’s most influential composers. His world changes after the arrival of Mozart, whose extraordinary musical talent leaves Salieri struggling with feelings of injustice and resentment.

Although Salieri appears to become Mozart’s friend, he secretly attempts to undermine him by using his position and influence. Mozart gradually faces financial difficulties, debt, and illness, while continuing to create music.

The production presents the conflict between two composers and follows Salieri’s struggle as he witnesses Mozart’s music gaining recognition while his own works are forgotten.

Anatoly Shuliev

Anatoly Shuliev is the current artistic director of the Vakhtangov Theatre.

He studied acting and directing at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and the Shchukin Theatre Institute. Since 2023, he has served as the director of the Vakhtangov Theatre.

His production of Amadeus was his first work directed on the Vakhtangov Theatre’s main stage.

The Vakhtangov Theatre is a theatre company founded in 1921 and based in Moscow.

The theatre presents a variety of productions including drama, classical tragedy, and operetta. Its productions have received major Russian theatre awards, including the Golden Mask Award.
