Description

Pushkin Tales is a theatre production presented by Shuliev and the Vakhtangov Theatre. Based on Alexander Pushkin’s works, the production brings together several stories from The Belkin Tales for the stage.

About the Performance

Pushkin Tales is adapted from Alexander Pushkin’s famous collection The Belkin Tales.

The production presents four stories across different seasons:

  • Spring & Summer: The Squire’s Daughter
  • Autumn: The Shot
  • Winter: The Blizzard
  • Another Spring: The Stationmaster

The production was first presented in 2024, on the occasion of the 225th anniversary of Pushkin’s birth.


Story Overview

The Squire’s Daughter

The story follows Lisa, the daughter of a landowner, who disguises herself as a village girl named Akulina to meet Alexey. Their relationship develops while their families remain unaware of their connection.

The Shot

Officer Silvio, known for his exceptional shooting skills, carries a long-standing desire for revenge after a past humiliation. Years later, he encounters the person involved in the original duel again.

The Blizzard

Maria and Vladimir plan to elope, but a snowstorm changes their fate. Years later, an unexpected reunion reveals the connection between their past and present.

The Stationmaster

Stationmaster Samson Vyrin lives with his daughter Dunya. After Dunya leaves with a cavalry officer, Samson searches for her, but their lives take different paths.

Anatoly Shuliev

Anatoly Shuliev is the current artistic director of the Vakhtangov Theatre.

Pushkin Tales is his first production after becoming artistic director of the theatre. The production is adapted from Pushkin’s The Belkin Tales.

Vakhtangov Theatre

The Vakhtangov Theatre is a theatre company founded in 1921 and based in Moscow.

The theatre presents various forms of performance, including drama, classical tragedy, and operetta. Its productions have received major Russian theatre awards.
