He received the title of People’s Artist of the USSR in 1984 and has received several awards including the Maurice Béjart Special Prize and the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” (Third Class). Gordeev has also taught at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and served as a jury member for international ballet competitions.
