The Wonder of Patterns: Masterpieces of Indian, Iranian, and Ottoman Art from the Louvre marks the Louvre Museum’s first exhibition in Shanghai, presented at the Museum of Art Pudong. Drawing from the Louvre’s collection, the show brings together around 300 works dating from the 16th to 19th centuries, spanning regions across South Asia, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean. Objects on view include ceramics, metalwork, textiles, manuscripts, jewelry, and architectural elements, organized into three sections focusing on the Indian, Iranian, and Ottoman worlds. Rather than a single historical narrative, the exhibition looks at how patterns, materials, and visual motifs travelled across cultures through trade, diplomacy, and artistic exchange, offering a broad survey of decorative traditions that continue to influence art and design today.
