Music And Ticketing Editor
Published Thursday, November 21

SmartShanghai is looking for one lovable person with a huge appetite for music and culture and the drive to write articles based on them. This role, for a native English speaker, comes with a work visa and a competitive salary, as well as a seat in SmartShanghai HQ with the rest of our team, five days a week. For the right candidate, international relocation will be considered.

The Job

SmartTicket by SmartShanghai has more than 100 shows at any given time, from the Formula One race to the Russian State Ballet and parties with members of the A$AP Mob. In this role, you will create content related to the listed shows, including interviews with musicians, dancers and other performers; original editorial material putting the shows into context for readers and customers; editorial recommendations; listicles; and whatever else we can think of to get the word out there about all the great cultural activities that are happening in Shanghai.

This position will primarily focus on SmartTicket, and will include writing short, snappy descriptions for each show based on original research, provided press materials and your own knowledge.

However, some articles may overlap with and be published on, at the discretion of the Managing Editor.

Basically, it’s the perfect job for someone who is ravenous about culture and can write. That’s what it is.

  • You are interested in the Arts with a capital A, from stage shows to classical music to nightlife and DJs
  • You do not have to be currently located in China
  • You are a native English speaker. Reading and speaking Chinese are a bonus
  • You can write
  • You have at least five years of provable work experience and at least a bachelor’s degree
  • At least two of those years were related to music journalism
