Job Description

We are looking for a highly experienced and motivated Senior Operations Manager to directly enter a leadership role with 5-8 direct reports across Order Operations, Logistics, and Quality. This individual will be responsible for receiving and delegating all incoming and active projects/orders deployed to Contract Manufacturers in China.

The ideal candidate will ideally come from a role already having direct reports or previous leadership experience. This role requires a high degree of communication and independent creative problem-solving. The candidate will be expected to have a strong working knowledge of electrical equipment, manufacturing processes, and international export logistics to succeed.

  • Contract Manufacturing Management Manage and oversee CM operations for dozens of projects valued at ~$10M at any given time, ensuring alignment between project management, quality assurance, and logistics teams to deliver on-time results.
  • Project Leadership Manage transformer projects and other complex electrical infrastructure initiatives. Drive the project lifecycle from design submittals to procurement, ensuring high-level oversight while managing granular details like custom component sourcing.
  • Cross-Functional Team Leadership Manage cross-functional teams, including sourcing, logistics, and design departments, coordinating with CM engineering teams. Ensure seamless communication and collaboration to meet project timelines and maintain operational excellence.
  • Supplier and Vendor Management Develop and maintain relationships with Chinese suppliers to facilitate smooth operations. Address capacity restraints, lead times, and change orders while facilitating collaborative solutions to meet production targets.
  • Technical Oversight Approve and review CAD drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, and engineering schematics to ensure products meet customer requirements and comply with industry standards. Be the tip of the spear driving your team into new orders as they come in.
  • Process Optimization and Scaling Independently take initiatives to improve internal and external processes. Implement best practices for supplier development and process efficiency to be a benefit, not an impediment, to the company's hyperscaling.
  • Efficiency Strategically optimize cost management for both goods and labor by effectively coordinating internal teams, contracted personnel, and suppliers. Diligently oversee orders and logistics to ensure that designs and plans align with the company’s financial and operational goals.
  • Quality Control and Compliance Ensure all projects adhere to quality standards, from sourcing to final delivery. Work closely with quality control teams to resolve any issues and ensure compliance with both customer expectations and industry regulations.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years in operations management, with at least 3 years in a role with direct reports; focus on contract manufacturing, logistics, and project management in the energy or industrial sectors.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of CAD, electrical wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings. Knowledge of both US and China industrial markets and supply chains is preferred.
  • Leadership: Proven experience in managing cross-functional teams and managing supplier relationships in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to handle complex project challenges, including supplier delays and technical issues, with a solution-oriented approach.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication and leadership skills; ability to interact effectively with difficult suppliers, engineers, technicians, and management teams in both English and Mandarin.
  • Ability and willingness to direct your team in factory settings, with regular travel to different production sites.
  • Fluent in English (speaking, reading, and writing) to communicate effectively with USA-based teams.
  • Full-time, in-office role in Xuhui District, Shanghai, China with above average work hours.
