Want to be a Curio?

Who We Are:

If there is one word to sum up what we do at Curio, that would be “why.”

We believe that it’s a shame to not know why you’re doing what you’re doing. It takes time to figure that out and sometimes even the right people to help you realize your goals.

Curios come from different backgrounds, experiences, and careers but we all share similar goals: do work we’re proud of, learn, tell the truth, treat people right, make an impact, have fun, and do it all with people we like and trust.

We are a diverse group of educators and dreamers who believe in the power of inspiring purpose and building a thriving community of learners.

At the end of the day, our mission is to help our students understand themselves, push them to discover their purpose, and guide them to reach their goals.

Although college counseling is a key component of our program, we are not just a college counseling company. Every family that joins Curio will be paired with a college counselor and a mentor that will guide them through the years until they go off to college. Throughout their time in our program, students will be exposed to a variety of opportunities within our ecosystem, both online and offline, that will develop them academically and personally, so that they can thrive in college and beyond.

Curio is a mission-driven organization: our approach to higher education is to develop our students into uniquely outstanding individuals that universities pick to be part of their class, not to package them into a pre-set profile that schools accept. We were once students ourselves, and we hope to prepare the next generation of students to be a part of their college community, and to make the most of this life-changing experience.

Who You Are:

People who bring their heart to work thrive at Curio. If you’re a curious, kind and thoughtful human being who makes work a way of life without making it your actual life, you just might find a home here.

As a young company, we also need people who are not afraid of the word "No." We need people who are not afraid to pick up the phone. We need people with raw talent and a strong will to “get sh*t done”.

And most importantly, we need people who share the vision of Curio.

REQUIREMENTS

As a Curio mentor, you will focus on how to help their students become better versions of themselves. In this collaborative journey between mentors and students, the mentors are not only invested in helping students discover their passions, but they are also enabling students to develop cognitive, emotional well-being, and life skills through our mentorship curriculum. You help your students find passions that interest them and guide them on how to do them at a deeper level rather than help them think of activities that colleges will like.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Working with 15 to 30 middle to high school level Chinese students.
  • Acting as an older brother or sister, or role model.
  • Helping students develop the skill sets and knowledge base they need to answer their own questions.
  • Guiding students to find the purpose behind the things they are doing and work towards discovering meaningful passions.
  • Collaborating with fellow team members on other aspects of the Curio curriculum and programming.

We would like you to be/have:

  • Fluent in English and highly proficient in Mandarin, as you will be communicating with parents only in Mandarin.
  • Having studied in the U.S. for an undergraduate degree is helpful but not necessarily required.
  • Located in or open to relocating to Shanghai, China.
  • Enthusiastic about education and personal development.
