Senior External Communications Specialist

Job Description

This position will support the External Communications team within Public Affairs & Communications at Shanghai Disney Resort. The position will assist in executing the overall external communications strategy for the resort, while also providing the English language service support within External Communications.

The successful candidate will work in a very dynamic and fast-paced environment with a heavy focus on external communication activities to support the resort's reputation management. They will also collaborate with various stakeholders and teams to provide public affairs and resort reputation-related consultations and comments. The daily work scope will include message development, editorial and publication management, media event management, external promotions, English language review, and more.

This position will report to the Senior Manager, External Communications, Public Affairs & Communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of and execute external communication strategies, campaigns, processes, and channels that support the business objectives of Shanghai Disney Resort.
  • Develop and maintain relations with local-based foreign media and expat media.
  • Develop high-quality English messages and information concerning the resort’s reputation, including press releases, pitch letters, speeches, among others.
  • Support the management and operation of the resort’s official social platforms, including but not limited to WeChat and Instagram.
  • Ensure that all external communications in the English language are accurate, timely, and professionally written.
  • Monitor media and social media stories and discussions that may affect Shanghai Disney Resort's reputation and business, and implement timely actions that assist in managing such issues.
  • Work with different Lines of Business (LOB) to provide consultation and comments from a resort reputation protection perspective. This includes but is not limited to ensuring that guidelines for the proper use of nomenclature, grammar, graphics, and names are met in every communication piece; ensuring that all communication pieces reflect legal and relevant guidelines.
  • Accomplish assignments effectively, accurately, and within the established timeframe. Manage both external and internal stakeholders relevant to each project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Public Affairs, Journalism, Communications, or other relevant areas.
  • 5+ years of related professional experience.
  • A native level of English is required.
  • Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is a plus.
  • Extensive English writing experience.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required.
  • Proficiency in publishing, graphics design, photo, and video editing software is a plus.
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate across various teams to implement communication strategies and plans.
  • Ability to identify, develop, and deliver key messages to targeted audiences.
  • Highly creative, with the ability to identify unique channels, mediums, and manners to effectively communicate and inspire.
  • Problem-solving and conflict-management skills.
  • Keen interest in ongoing process creation and improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work in crises and handle projects with immediate delivery schedules.
  • Experience working in a multinational corporate environment.
  • Be able to concentrate on assignments amid a fast-paced working environment and multi-task requests.
  • Flexibility in a schedule based on work assignments; may require some weekends, holidays, early morning, and late evening work.
  • Prefer background in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Media, Marketing, English, and International Relations.
