Job Description

BritCham Shanghai is calling for an enthusiastic person to join our experienced team as our 110 Anniversary Events Manager. The British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai was founded in 1915 and 2025 will see our 110 anniversary.  This is a landmark event that we would like to celebrate and promote. You will be playing a key role in planning and implementing the Chamber’s 110 Anniversary events in 2025. The event calendar is still in the design state so you will play a role both in the planning as well as execution.  This will involve government, corporate, and public events in Shanghai and the East China region.

The successful applicant will be responsible for planning, budgeting, execution of events, and marketing the opportunities to reach the target audience. You will also work with Chamber colleagues from across the team to ensure the events are organized and developed effectively. You will also support or lead other events and activities as required and time allows. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, build, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including hotels, restaurants, and other potential venue options; service providers; partners, etc.; Negotiate cost-effective deals;
  • Update and coordinate with the Chamber’s events master calendar;
  • Manage pre-event logistics, including invitation, registration, nametags/attendee lists, invoicing, etc.;
  • Manage on-site logistics, including set-up preparation, registration, payment, venue coordination, troubleshooting, and other event execution;
  • Manage post-event logistics, including collecting attendees' feedback, speaker appreciation, and finance report;
  • Manage invitations and relationship-building with both UK and Chinese government officials/departments.
  • Support and coordinate traditional and social media exposure as well as content and material design & production.
  • Responsible for meeting and managing expectations of speakers and audience;
  • Create, oversee, and manage event budgets.

The Package: monthly gross salary ranges from RMB 10,000 to RMB 12,000 (based on experience) plus leave entitlement. You are eligible to participate in the Chamber’s discretionary Annual Performance Bonus. Any Bonus awards paid will depend upon your performance against agreed objectives and the overall performance, including financial, of the Chamber.

Requirements

  • Preferably major in events management or related
  • Native Chinese with excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Well-organised, extremely detail-oriented
  • Experience in working with Chinese government officials
  • Excellent negotiation and organizational skills
  • Strong sense of urgency, ownership, and work ethic
  • Ability to perform multiple job functions and tasks
  • A team player with a proactive and flexible approach to work
  • Flexible scheduling required – including early mornings and evenings during the week
  • Culturally empathetic and eager to work in an international environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a heart for service and a sustained positive attitude 
  • Be comfortable working within a small, close-knit team
  • At least one year of related professional experience (including solid internship experience)
