Just around the corner from Zhongshan Park is this low-key neighborhood cafe that stays busy with taitais all afternoon. The food is surprisingly good and the portions are big, especially the "small" salads. Go with the Caesar instead of the salmon though. The best value -- and the main reason to come here for many -- is the breakfast platter. At 50rmb, you get a heap of scrambled eggs, some not-quite-crispy-enough jigsaw bacon, a decent salad with balsamic dressing, some mushrooms and onions, and a full toasted baguette with some cheese slices. One could assemble this in any number of manners, or opt for the 35rmb breakfast baguette, which is just this minus the salad and mushrooms. Coffee is decent. They've got a decent patio, but the kitschy inside is like the broken dreams of a middle-aged Japanese housewife and the tables are small. Boom is famous for rainbow cake, but that one seems more suitable for WeChat Moments posting than actually consuming.
