It certainly is Grand. This has been the modern hub for Shanghai's premier performance acts including ballet, drama and classical music since it opened in 1988, and it really embraces its prime location in the midst of People's Square. The Grand Theater is probably where you'll end up going to see the Broadway shows that visit. It's seen the likes of Mamma Mia! and Hairspray, you know!
