Dada is a classic Shanghai dive bar / small club that functions as a chill, lounge-y hang-out spot Sunday through Thursday, and as a hip DJ dance party events space on Friday and Saturday. Now in its second incarnation on Yan’an Xi Lu, it caters to a younger Chinese and expat crowd in a comfortable, pretentious-free, concrete minimalist sort of environment. Drinks are cheaper than most (50rmb mixes and bottles; great cocktails at 70rmb), and there’s snug lounge and bar seating for small groups of friends or couples. The club is managed by a Shanghai-based independent promoter, so expect the DJ/music crowd lounging therein. The place packs out on Friday and Saturday and there is usually a cover change.
