Right opposite niko and… along Huaihai Zhong Lu comes a cute French-styled cafe L’oeuf, opened by Shanghainese chef Louis, who previously studied and worked in France for over a decade. The interior is quite spacious, occupying two levels with a typical minimalist design. Their speciality galettes are crafted from fresh, homemade batter using imported flour, and are served before 5pm. Compared to another popular go-to, Rac galettes in L’oeuf have a milder and more natural taste. They also serve all-day brunch dishes like pastas and sandwiches, as well as snacks such as fries and chicken wings. Menu is not long, but the selection is nice, yummy, and reasonably priced. Pro tip: gelatos in the shop are from the same factory as Luneurs', so you get similar high quality ice cream for a cheaper price (25rmb for one scoop). In the evening, the venue serves as a casual bar and runs until midnight.
