The German School was founded in 1995 and comprises two locations - Hongqiao Campus and Yangpu Campus. The German School Shanghai offers education from Kindergarten to high school graduation (German International High School Diploma (Abitur)). Their graduates with the German International Abitur (DIA) are well-prepared to study at prestigious German and international universities. The primary language of instruction is German, and we offer a German language program ("Deutsch als Fremdsprache" (DaF) / "Deutsch als Zweitsprache" (DaZ)) for children who have little or no knowledge of the language. With currently around 1100 students and almost 150 professional teachers the German School Shanghai is one of the biggest German schools abroad. German School Shanghai is a full-time school and offers, in addition to regular classes, a wide range of afternoon activities. The school is equipped with modern facilities like the largest German library outside Germany, sports grounds, indoor gym, swimming pool and a theatre in the fine art centre.
