Located at 980 Zhonghua Lu, near Yuyuan Garden and Wenmiao, the newly opened Huangpu Cultural Centre is a striking new landmark in Shanghai’s Old Town. Designed as a “city terrace” inspired by mountains and water, the building features layered terraces, rooftop gardens, and dramatic lighting, transforming it into a glowing beacon at night. Covering 45,000 square meters, the center includes a 1,000-seat grand theater, a multi-functional black box theater, exhibition halls, rehearsal spaces, and a cinema soon to open. Designed by French architect Hervé Descottes and teams from He Zhong and East China Architectural Design Institute, the centre balances modern expression with a deep connection to the surrounding neighborhood.
