Yongyuan Lu is a revived 500-meter stretch tucked between Nanjing Xi Lu and the quieter end of Yuyuan Lu, an area that spent decades largely forgotten. After a major redevelopment starting in 2023, it’s now shaping up as a small but flexible open-air commercial street with a strong emphasis on concept stores and brand-led experiences rather than everyday retail. Early tenants include first-in-Shanghai or Asia flagship spaces from fashion, furniture, and lifestyle brands, many of them using the street as a testing ground for pop-ups, exhibitions, and limited-time takeovers. A large central lawn and pedestrian-friendly layout give it a park-like feel, making it popular with dog walkers and weekend strollers. More of a curated brand showcase than a traditional shopping street, it’s still evolving, but already feels like a place designed for lingering rather than rushing through.
