BANANA+ is one of Shanghai’s larger bouldering gyms, located inside The Lightbox near Shanghai Railway Station. The gym combines two spaces in B1 — the original 500sqm Banana Climbing area and the newer 2,000sqm BANANA+ space — with a single pass giving access to both. There are no lead or top-rope routes here, only bouldering, with the older area offering softer, beginner-friendly problems and the newer space leaning more toward intermediate climbers, with most routes around V3 and above. The gym is well-equipped with training areas, a fitness zone, climbing shoe repair and fitting services, equipment sales, changing rooms, storage, and plenty of small details like free socks, water, and photo stands. With routes ranging from V0 to V9, it works for both first-timers and experienced climbers, although beginners may find some of the newer routes challenging. There are also other BANANA+ locations in Shanghai, including Yan’an Xi Lu and Jinhongqiao, offering different setups for climbers of various levels.
