AOB (Academy of Bouldering) is a popular bouldering gym in Hongkou’s North Bund area, known for its creative routes, welcoming atmosphere, and strong community vibe. Located just a short walk from International Cruise Terminal Metro Station, the gym may not be the biggest in Shanghai, but it makes great use of its space with a wide variety of thoughtfully set problems. Routes cover different styles, from technical climbs to dynamic movements, with plenty of options for beginners while still keeping things interesting for more experienced climbers. The gym is especially known for its fun, approachable setting that doesn’t rely too much on body type or repetitive formulas. With friendly staff, detailed beginner guidance, K-board training areas, and a relaxed community atmosphere, AOB feels more like a climbing playground than just a training space. A new AOB location has also opened near Jiangwan Stadium, featuring a much larger climbing area with more walls and training facilities.
