Just north of Suzhou Creek is an excellent solution for cheapskates who want to swim in a nice apartment complex's pool populated by a smattering of Chinese families mixed in with Russian models. Open daily from 9am till 10pm. They let in non-residents for 25rmb before 5pm. There's a time limit, and they reserve the right to kick you out after a couple of hours, but that's not strictly enforced, and for another 25rmb/35rmb you can just pay your way right back inside. It's kind of a racket, come to think of it. After 5pm they hike the admission price up to 35rmb. They also ask for 6rmb for a "health check." Management says you'll need a swim cap, and we're not sure how strictly that rule is enforced. Pretty easy to get to, near Zhongtan Lu on lines 3 and 4. Open until August 31. To get to this pool via taxi, you’ll want the driver to drop you off at the entrance of Lane 91, Zhongtan Road, which is essentially a small street called Qingshuiwan Lu (the driver won’t know this street). From Zhongtan Lu metro, it's super easy. Lines 3/4, take Exit 3, and walk down the street about 2 mins. At the first small intersection, take a right down that road into the complex, you’ll pass some tennis courts on the right, but listen out for the sound of splashing right after, and you’ll have found the pool. Take the small path between some bushes, and which will put you onto another path that leads directly to the pool.
