Our two campuses have always shared the same educational philosophy, commitment to academic excellence and belief in putting students first. As Dulwich College Shanghai, we are building on these strong foundations by bringing together the expertise, opportunities, and strengths of both campuses. This will create an even richer educational experience for every student, including expanded academic pathways such as A-Level and IB Diploma, while preserving the distinctive character and community that families value at each campus.

Our Head of College on the Future of Dulwich College Shanghai

As Dulwich College Shanghai begins this exciting new chapter, Head of College Garry Russell shares his perspective on what ‘One College, Two Campuses' means for our students, families and wider community, and the opportunities that lie ahead for the College.

What does One College, Two Campuses mean for our students, families, and wider College community?

Mr Russell: 'Both campuses have always worked very closely together and have been aligned in many ways. We have always shared the same philosophy towards education. By coming together formally as Dulwich College Shanghai, we are taking this one step further, ensuring that our expertise, resources, and facilities can be shared across both campuses for the benefit of every member of our College community.

For our staff, we will continue to focus on areas such as our new AI Critical Thinking Framework, which will enable students to learn how to engage with AI in a responsible and effective way.

For students, there will be many new academic experiences as part of Dulwich College Shanghai. Our upcoming Robotics Festival will bring together industry-leading robotics experts from across Shanghai, who will showcase the latest developments in robotics across both campuses.

For parents, there will also be more opportunities to come together as one College community through a range of College events and shared experiences across both campuses.

Ultimately, being one College means more opportunities and stronger experiences for every member of Dulwich College Shanghai.'

Looking ahead, what are you most excited about for Dulwich College Shanghai?

Mr Russell: 'Looking slightly further ahead, I am particularly excited that Dulwich College Shanghai has been chosen to host the Dulwich Olympiad in 2027, a unique event within the Education in Motion (EiM) family of schools.

As one College, we will be able to bring together students from across both campuses to take part in sports, music, robotics, visual arts, and performing arts. It will be an incredible opportunity to celebrate the breadth of talent across our College and strengthen the connections between our two campuses.

I am really looking forward to this event, which will showcase the incredible breadth of opportunities available to our students as part of Dulwich College Shanghai.'

What is the long-term vision for our Puxi campus, and what can families look forward to in the years ahead?

Mr Russell: 'It is important to emphasise that we will continue to invest in both of our campuses, ensuring they remain at the cutting edge of education and technology.

Our Puxi and Pudong campuses will continue to maintain separate memberships of key organisations such as FOBISIA and ACAMIS, ensuring students continue to have access to a wide range of competitions, activities, and learning experiences.

In addition, our Puxi campus will become a member of HMC, one of the world's leading associations of schools. This will create further opportunities for both students and staff through professional learning, collaboration, and international connections.'

As our Pudong campus continues to grow, how is the College investing in the student experience?

Mr Russell: 'We already offer a fantastic variety of co-curricular activities at our Pudong campus, alongside a broad and diverse curriculum, and we will continue to invest in both of these areas.

We have already increased the number of teachers supporting our IB programme, and we will continue to invest in our teaching capacity. We are also looking forward to introducing an A-Level programme from 2027, giving students even greater choice as they progress through their Senior School years.'

How will One College, Two Campuses further strengthen teaching and learning across the College?

Mr Russell: 'The quality of teaching across the College is already exceptional, and we have a strong culture of professional learning.

By coming together as one College, our teachers and professional support staff can work even more closely together, learning from one another, sharing expertise, and continuing to develop their practice. Ultimately, this will help ensure we continue to provide the highest-quality education for every student at Dulwich College Shanghai.'
